What Intel usually does, I think, is to make these boards so their 
chipsets can get out
in the field and find acceptance (and work out any quirks).  Then, Intel 
drops
the boards, and lets some of their usual customers (SuperO, Tyan, etc.) 
make almost
identical boards with their chipsets, while others like Dell make more 
customized
boards.  I suspect that the generic makers will make boards that are almost
identical, wire for wire, to the Intel board, and thus they should have the
same latency performance.
