I seem to recall making a similar point a while back about other vendors
copying, more or less, the Intel "reference" designs.

Case in point, my ASUS AT5NM10-I motherboard with Intel D525 CPU. See
the excellent latency numbers in the latency test table on the wiki.

I think it is now out of stock, but I see NewEgg and others also carry
the Gigabyte GA-D525TUD Intel Atom D525 motherboard. (80USD at NewEgg
just now). Haven't tested it but prolly ok. Note that it has a CPU fan.
I'm not sure that's a negative given that these things run hot in tight
enclosures.

As for the D525MW, the Intel Product Change Notification 111729-00,
dated Sep. 03, 2012, announced its discontinuance with a last order date
(from Intel, presumably) of October 1, 2012.

My personal pricebreak seems to be just under 100USD. Below that price I
don't feel like a spendthrift if I stockpile a couple MBs for weekend
projects, discontinued or not. If this class of integrated MB/CPU were
to go away altogether, I'd fall back on cheap ASUS/Gigabyte motherboards
and cheap AMD cpus, from which I've gotten excellent latency numbers.
Trouble is, I have trouble getting anywhere near the sub-20watt TDP
figure of the Intel board.

Regards,
Kent

PS - speaking of latency test results, I don't see postings for some of
the recent Intel Atom MBs that have been discussed on this list. Come
on, folks. Share your results.
