I have found several instances of memory problems that were *NOT*
detected by memtest86[+]*, even when run for extended periods
(overnight or 24 hours+).

As a result, I now use:

...while it also tests memory, it does so while putting the CPU under
100% load, as well as performing maximum-speed DMA transfers to the
disk drive(s).

In short, it stresses the system a lot more than a simple memory test,
and will turn up problems with marginal designs (cooling,
power-supply, etc) that memtest86 will miss.

You can pxe-boot the kernel/initrd image if you're setup for that, or
burn an ISO image to create a bootable CD.
