My guess, since its in a dimmer, is that its a triac or scr.  Probably a 
triac.

But take another pix of it laying on some newsprint so the autofocus on 
your camera will at least try to focus on the device instead of the table 
12 feet away.

Oh, and what brand is the dimmer?
