I considered that approach too but would need to rig slip rings for the usb 
connection, so I gave that up before it got to be all consuming. :)  Its a 
neat idea though.  And perhaps a good on on bigger more precise machinery 
than this one, which doesn't even have ball screws (but they are in the 
back of my mind)
