You could consider connecting the motor encoders only to the drives, and the linear encoders to the interface board. Then you run it like a normal stepper system but with a PID "tweaker" on position based on the linear scales.

The drives do have a self test jogging capability to check for motor operation in both directions. There's an obvious piece of mixed up in translation repeated a few times in the document. "Insertion/Extraction of the power line must be done before more than one (1) minute has elapsed after power shutdown." Looks like they left a NOT out. That's repeated a few times, but in the first part on warnings it says to wait five minutes before connecting or disconnecting things.
