Hi all, I would like to ask a few basic questions about LinuxCNC before I move forward with our project. Thanks for taking the time to help.
We have a project going on where we want to control a machine remotely. Computer A has the UI (already developed separately) and it talks to computer B (possibly using modBus TCP over Ethernet) which would control our machine. LinuxCNC would sit on computer B. In fact, both A and B are BeagleBoneBlack's. We have found that LinuxCNC would be great to use, but before I invest a considerable amount of time learning it I thought I would ask the gurus a few questions. I have only been looking at LinuxCNC for a week or so. First, is there a way to remotely control LinuxCNC and get feedback from it to my UI? My program would need to send commands/get feedback in a command-like fashion, without using LinuxCNC's UI. I saw there exists "linuxcncrsh", but using telnet to communicate with it doesn't seem like a very robust way of doing things. Second, I have seen posts mentioning modBus is available with LinuxCNC and others saying it isn't. Which one is it? I also have to figure out how long it would take me to learn the basics of LinuxCNC, or at least know enough to make this work. Guesstimates anyone? thanks for your help, Walter Cigana ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ October Webinars: Code for Performance Free Intel webinars can help you accelerate application performance.
