Well, firstly I don't have any fonts. So the first stage of using that approach would have been to install some and get TTT or similar working. Also, I can't simply swap cables, as my rotary is a 24V bldc driven by three-phase PWM and a 7i39, and the axis motors are controlled digitally at 300V (8i20) Swapping cables would be the hard way to do it anyway, it's a fairly trivial HAL change. The real reason I went for the all g-code solution was firstly that I thought it might be fun (the idea of a G-code line "O0 sub" amused my in a perverse way for a start).
