Yeah, that's why his script weighs in at 1700+ lines.

So what you had in mind in your original post is a streamlined script 
with the sole purpose of creating a bootable microSD card suitable for 
Beaglebone White and/or Beaglebone Black boards from your MachineKit 
tarball?

Good thing I asked. I was imagining  a somewhat more elaborate script. 
On reflection, simplest is best.
