Chains or belts?

Give that a 24' belt might have a lot of stretch, it might be possible
to run a large-diameter thin-wall steel tube diagonally under the
table, and use two shorter belts to couple opposite ends of the two
screws to the tube. It might be possible to twist the belts enough to
make it work, or some sort of low-backlash flex-coupling might be
needed (a diaphragm coupling, for example)
