All Kurt vises are keyed on the bottom. They even sell the keys in different stepped widths IIRC. My import vises are also keyed the same (but included the keys and have to be ground down if you have something other than a bridgeport sized slot.) So maybe the guy wasn't so clever;) They do repeat very well w/ the keys.
