This is an intriguing idea Chris. I have made up a gauge with pcb contact surfaces I can tie into a probe pin, that I can place on the ways, and back up against the chuck for a fixed Z location. Being able to mount a different tool, and do a probe to establish the tools major geometry settings and install them in the tool table, sounds very useful to me. I just installed 2.6.0 on both of my boxes early this morning, so I'll have to check this out.
