A servo drive and a VFD are not the same thing. If you want to drive a spindle then the VFD is good enough but for servos you should use a matching servo drive. The servo drive has a control loop that requires the encoder to be connected to the drive itself. I have not tried to use VFD in a servo loop but I am fairly sure that it will not work as well a servo drive but I might be wrong about this.
