This S/B fine Gregg, on ball screws, my z is geared down 2/1 however and can still move 60+ ipm. On OEM screws with the much higher friction, probably light. > For the cross slide I have a Superior Electric M061-LS08. 1.25V 3.8A. > Six leads. I tried a 54 on my x, 1/1 to a small ball screw and it could not drive a fresh carbide insert across the face of a 3/4" cold rolled workpiece for any D.O.C. above a couple thou. I have an 8 wire, in series, 425oz hanging off the rear of the carriage now, as I was out of 262's. Its too heavy in terms of the weight, but it does work. Hind-sight being 20-5, the original 54oz on a high ratio planetary geardown would have been lighter weight, and rapids speed on x is not as important as it doesn't have that far to move anyway, I have it artificially restricted to about 10 ipm, just so it doesn't slam the end of travel so hard. But couldn't find the planetary on fleabay & making one is well beyond my pay grade, no pay except by SS. :) Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
