A brushed AC motor in a drill/router/saw is almost assuredly a 'universal'
motor. Its a DC parallel field wound motor. Thus both the rotor and
stator are connected to the same terminals. When the AC polarity reverses
BOTH magnetic fields reverse and the motor still turns the same direction
(both negatives cancel one another.) Its simply a DC motor thats running
on pulsed input voltage. W/ low enough winding inductance it there is very
little current phase shift. A 120V AC universal motor drill will work fine
on 120V DC. Done it (Friend had a home made electric Geo w/ ~120V battery
pack. Could run drills and such plugged directly into the battery.)

The type of motor control you listed form amazon should work. You will
lose torque at lower voltage as you are reducing the field too. But if
running it in some sort of closed loop fashion, the loop should correct for
that.
