> there is no space left for one or two PHYs and the > Ethernet jack(s). The jacks have a rather large footprint indeed, the PHY can be pretty small, I'm sue I've seen packages smaller than 5x5 mm. Regarding the RJ45 connectors you could replace them by something smaller (e.g. Molex Mini50), just like lot of the Ultrabook manufacturers do, but that would spoil a lot of the advantages of Ethernet.
