I considered that, but since it was plenty close in the 2" I did scan, I 
figured the under .001" I got, that it was plenty good enough since I 
was looking for 5 to 10 thou in 3/4"

Thanks John.  It appears bit flex is the culprit so I'll reduce the 
cutting load for the next test cuts.  More revs would no doubt help, but 
around 2600 is throttle screwed to the floor.
