Ubuntu 10.04 was an LTS (Long Term Support) version, issued in April 2010, IIRC. LTS means that it is supported for 5 years on servers and 3 years on the desktop. Either way, it's no longer supported; there'll be no more updates for it. I tried to upgrade to 12.04 a while ago, but the installation failed to complete on several attempts, so I now run Debian 7.8.0 on my desktop machine. For a LinuxCNC host, wouldn't you just download http://www.linuxcnc.org/linuxcnc-2.7-wheezy.iso to become current? ISTM that we're onto a Debian 7 base there, rather than Ubuntu, but I haven't been paying enough attention to the latest developments to be certain of that.
