Greetings all; This piece of cast I am working on seems to be pretty hard on plain grey carbide inserts. Good working life seems to be about half an hour making sand on the table. Currently working at about 4" in diameter and 250 to 300 revs. 300 revs would (circumference=pi*d, or pi * 4 * 300, meaningthe surface speed is 37700 ipm. Thats 314 fpm.
#27 gives some quite confusing data, but what answers I can find range from 400 to 1050 fps. That sounds as if I should crank it to to 600 revs. Suggested G96.1 line to hit the middle of the range? Running in G21, G8 modes. Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
