It does.  The "remote" part of NML lay unused for many years and 
bitrotted, but Jeff Epler revived it in 2014, and it's in the 2.7 
release.  We have a test that verifies that it works, but not actual 
users of it as far as I know.

I believe Machinekit still uses NML in exactly the same way that 
LinuxCNC does.  They added a special user interface program that speaks 
NML to Task just like Axis and Touchy and Gmoccapy etc etc do, but 
instead of displaying a GUI on a local screen it accepts commands from 
remote programs via 0mq.
