Only ever went to the doctor once for a "splinter" once. When I was in high
school, I was running through the house in stocking feet and picked up a 2.5"
long, very thick sewing needle in my sock, then caught it on an aluminum
transition strip on the floor. We found a 1/2" piece from the center of the
needle on the floor. (Never did find the eye of the needle.) We could not see
any trace of the needle in my foot, but I knew it was there. At the ER after
x-rays, the doc had to dig down about 1/4" to find the needle, then about
pulled me off the table trying to pull out that piece that was more than one
inch long. Hurt like **** when his forceps would slip off. One of the more
painful experiences I've endured. (I've had a pretty easy life.)

Right. Now, since I build boards with an assortment of SMT
parts, I use mine ALL the time!
But, of course, some others may not be building tiny stuff
that often.

Still, I find I use it for a number of odd things,
inspecting small parts and such. I've even done surgery on
myself and a few family members when we had deep splinters
that needed to be dug out. (When they get TOO deep, I
chicken out and send them off to the local doc in a box.)
