WD-40 sucks for rust prevention. Motor oil is much better. The best stuff I have found at a reasonable price is this stuff: http://www.fluid-film.com/ The best place I have found to buy it is Zoro tools - part of Grainger. Wait for their sales - 20-30% off and buy a few cans. There are guys who have tested it online and my results jive with the videos. I have a sheet of rusty steel sitting outside that I sprayed with this stuff 8 months ago. The rust stopped immediately and it looks like it did right after I sprayed it. The stuff never dries... its really very strange stuff. I think it ends up being about $20/gal with all of the discounts and free shipping. Great for machines, cars, trucks, etc. You can buy spray cans of it, but that is diluted with solvent so it can be sprayed. I have been buying gallon cans.
