Why not Peter, since it isn't yet running at a usable level?

My target of this particular exercise is to make, from 1/2" 7076 alu
plate about 60 yo, a double set of "drawbolt" clamped rings, one that
grabs the rim of the spindle flange, and one that grabs the hub of the
chuck mount faceplate. bolted together about 1/3 of a turn from the
milled slot the drawbolt will pull closed until each has a death grip,
one of the spindle flange, and one on the faceplate hub. The idea is
to, as long as the drawbolts are tight, lock the chuck to the spindle,
absolutely preventing it from being unscrewed by a violent reversal, say
at the bottom of a g33.1 operation. The faceplate hub looks and
measures pretty close to cylindrical, but it is a rough surfaced
forgeing or cast steel surface I am looking at, and I'd druther it was
trued, which means I'd have to separate it from the chuck and turn it
around on the spindle to gain access to taking off a thou or 5 while
making it cylindrical and concentric.

This is a combo of restoration where needed and cnc'ing it.

Its working just well enough I made the chess pawn out of cherry a couple
nights ago, but have not made any metallic swarf yet. Trueing up that
hub would be the first metallic operation I've done on it. I'll take
that back, the first operation would be to make an alu copy of those
two, the spindles flange, and the hub of the faceplate, to be used as a
plug gage when locating the two bolts that will bolt these circular
rings together so they are concentric.

Its no biggie to me if I have to chuck up a 1/2" piece of A2, put a dial
of it and work the chuck over with a dead blow hammer to restore its
grippers to .0001" runout when I'm done. Its a medium priced 3 jaw with
2 piece jaws. I have serious doubts it even has the ability to match
that if the 1/2" A2 is loosened & retightened. But I'll find out in due
time...

I do appreciate the concern though, thanks Peter
