If you are referring to the headstock end, you don't need an adapter. Just chuck a piece of scrap steel in your 3-jaw and turn a 60 degree point on it. Doesn't matter how bad the 3-jaw is. If you turn the point in place and don't remove it until you are done with the job it WILL be centered.
