If thats right on 23, ISTR seeing a sign on a turnoff pointing at 
Grayling, then I've been by your place on my trips to/from Iron 
Mountain, several times. Nice drive, low traffic. Low human density. And 
not as many deer as I expected. Did see a few once I'd turned left north 
of the bridge on US-2.

I've fed them, enough to get anemic if I don't eat right. We have 
copperheads here, so I've not met a rattler locally. But I expect they 
are about. They are endemic where I was born in Iowa.

I've experienced some of that too. -25F one night, damned rental jeep's 
battery expired, had to hoof it back to the motel from the feedbag, 
about a long mile north of the motel, in better than a foot of fresh 
snow that was 2+ feet by morning. I had better legs back then though.
