Most of the pneumatic valves I use have a small actuator (coil) that opens a small air passage to push the thimble within the valve body to the requested position. I recall that they are called "pilot valves". So they use a very small amount of current to do a very big job.
I have used Parker pilot valves in the past, but they have gotten way too expensive, so I am trying some from China. I found (on ebay) Toolots, that carry products from Pneulead. I hope to get them installed on my mill this weekend. I am using 3/8" units, as I needed that for my power drawbar. --J.
