The top part is not the D bit, it's part of the nut. You can see it's
thicker. But only the tip of the rod has the 8degree taper. This is to make
it easier to machine the inside geometry of the nut as one piece.  (my
geometry was not accurate though, should have looked up the correct
dimensions)
