To the best of my knowledge it has always been this way.  (My first 5i25 was 
bought in 2012.)

Aha! I was not aware of that. Is that a recent change? I am not sure its 
mentioned in the printouts I have done, which are several years old now. 
And maybe my boards are older? This will certainly take some exploration.
