I've not pulled the other computer down to open the cover and verify the jumpers on the one thats failing but the other BoB is being powered only by a separate 5v5a supply. That lashup is all plugged into a 6 outlet surge strip along with my air compressor, and the breaker on the surge strip was tripped. One resetting the breaker, the AC fired up and shut down at its set pressure. The ARK box was set to autoboot and was presenting me with a login when I arrived in front of it, so I ran linuxcnc -l, which it did normally, but about 5 minutes later the screen blossomed full of sseriel failure messages. Stepping back up the ladder, the 12 volt supply was acting like it was working into a short, dim blinks of the 12 volt led at about once per second, so I've either a short on the 12 volt line someplace, or a bad psu. I have another, but it was also making the monitor flicker gently like it was a real short dragging the power down for about a millisecond. I unplugged it and verified I have a spare just like it, but in house slippers my feet were complaining of the cold, so I turned off the overheads as I was leaving.
2 things, I need to get a 4 foot heavy extension cord and get the AC off that surge strip, and survey the 12 volt bus for shorts. The only relay that was on at the time, has a flyback diode on its coil, so I need to look at that diode carefully. With shoes on. :) Peter, my apologies, it really is a field power problem and its definitely mine. Thanks for your patience. That particular psu has only a 2.1 amp rateing, and may not be enough when everything is on as theres 2 4pdt relays, one dpdt driving the air valve it has to drive from that same supply. I think that might be telling me I need a higher amps supply, like 4 or more. I'll see what I can find. > Todd Zuercher > P.
