looks ok, except it was "quad-error-enable"  when I went to apply it. 
reported an error on the first restart, nothing since.
I took the cover off that encoder, looked it over, and put it back 
together, and now its working flawlessly again. As a tech, I hate that 
chain of events. Before I took it off the machine, the tach was going 
berzerk, at least 25% wibbles, re-assembled and re-installed, is now 
solid as a rock. No electrical connections were disturbed, they are all 
soldered anyway.
