Well, the existing preemp-rt kernel when I built the 2.8 release packages was 32-bit, so can not address 8GB. And there was a problem with that kernel if the available memory was set to more than 3GB. But, since then, I think that both issues have been fixed. There is a forum thread on building a 64-bit Pi LinuxCNC setup (and, I think, that there is probably a link somewhere to download an SD card image).
