Find extensions under the "marketplace" button o Cura's main screen at the
upper right.     I'm also using the Linux Appimage.  Extensions are 3rd
party add-ons.    Setting Guide Extension creates a pop-up dialog you
can call up for any setting with a short paragraph of explanation and maybe
a diagram.     It is basically an online reference manual.

If you use OpenSCAN, there is an OpenSCAD extension that allows Cura to
directly open OpenScan files without having to convert them to STL.
There might (maybe) be some advantage to skipping the STL file format.
Another is "arcwelder" which allows Cura to generate code for arc, rather
then the million tiny line segments.  Notice the arc print with less
noise.  It only works with printers that support the M code for "arc"  most
do.
