In all probability the PWM output will be 5V. The isolator helps with 
converting that to the 10v from the VFD. 
Also, it very much helps if the switching device is logic output / push-pull or 
totem pole output. Otherwise the capacitor only discharges through the VFD 
input impedance and so slows down at a very different rate to speeding up. 

There are many optos with similar properties to the ACPL. But I think it needs 
to be one of those rather than a simple transistor output one if you want a 
symmetrical response.
