Well, I wanted to give an update.  I finally ran some production parts on my retrofitted R2E3.

I had some issues with the spindle VFD causing communication errors between the PC and my PPMC boards, and fixed that by running a ground wire between the PC and the PPMC card cage. Then, I had an issue with the spindle encoder not producing the index pulse.  It turns out the centering of the encoder body to the shaft is very critical.  I bored out the mounting holes about .003" bigger and found the sweet spot for it.  And, I rigid tapped 216 holes with a combo drill-tap at 1000 RPM! I'm still collecting enough Kwik Switch 200 tooling to be fully set up.

I've not had any trouble with that as I ignore the index from the omron encoder on the motors back shaft, instead using a screw glued to the side of the spindle to trip an ATS-667 hall effect for an index pulse. I scale change from the tally switches on the gearshift knob. So my tach display is dead accurate in either gear. I say dead accurate, the scale was determined by subtracting the encoder count at 3 turns from the encoder count at 103 turns and dividing that by shifting the decimal point two digits left, instant 1% accuracy in either gear.

I finally did find my round tuit and measured my column tilt, worst case was x, off about 3 thou in the height of that circular square, so my major error is tramming related. On the go704, that tilt is very hard to correct, no vernier available.
