Hey Everyone,
I'm just checking to get recommendations on tool setter placement and workflow.
This is for a 5'x10' Avid CNC router. ATC with the Tool Rack in the back.
Operator station front right, and this is for hobby use only (For a Maker
Space, not production)
My original plan was to place the tool setter next to the tool racks in the back on the left hand side, and was hoping for 12 tool pockets, Given the space need between each tool
post for the dust shoe, I can't do that. I would have to drop down to 11 tool pockets, and my OCD won't let me do odd numbers, so it would be 10. :) However, since this is a
Wood CNC router, it's possible we'll be using larger spoil board or slab cutting bits, which would require an offset, and indexing over the tool setter. I'm not sure how well this
would work in the back. (Will be using only a Z height setter from Amazon). I'm starting to think in the back isn't a good idea. With the operator station is in the front, on the
right hand side, it would be a pain to walk around to the rear left side of the machine to index, plus, how do you handle it if it's automatically touching off for those tools? I
know the offset can be handled, but, what about indexing?
I'm also thinking about workflow and speed. If we preset the tooling before each job. Is there any reason to be auto touching off during tool changes? Only thing I can think of
is tool breakage.
Thanks, Billy - aka Connor
