I was hoping to use something like this to drive the LVDT:

And then convert the voltage output from the AD598 to frequency using a 555
timer. I don't have all of this figured out yet, that's why I'm still
defining which boards to use. But for some reason I feel more
comfortable using the encoder inputs as counters.
