Does the new 2.9.8 pi clone image still support the creation of slower

Yes, though are you sure you need it?

If you want to be really safe, why not buy an RPi5 and put the image
in that with your existing config? It will work, but the Pi5 is a lot
faster than the 4.
It's about twice as fast. This won't matter for LinuxCNC, particular,
but the GUI response etc will be a lot snappier.

Doesn't the price of the Pi5 now approach that of more conventional PC type
solutions? If the Pi5 was under $50 but the 4GB version here in Canada is $115.
Whereas the bpi-m5 has been available at as low as $65 w/o the wall wort psu here from amazon & its usb ports, all 4 of them, are usb3.1. I made a backup server out of one, works great and just as fast as a normal wintel pc solution, doing it on 19.6 watts in the middle of a backup run on 8 machines here. I went wild, bought a 5 pack of 4Tb SSD's, 2ea 7 port usb3.1 hubs cuz one wouldn't handle the write current for 5 drives, a 5 pack of startechs usb3.1 to sata-iii cables, a DIY drive cage, printing the shelves to mount it all. With a 5v 20 amp supply and a couple fans. Configured the 20Tb of drives into a software raid6 of about 11.1Tb. Takes it about 35 minutes to backup user 1000 of  8 machines here.  Local network bandwidth is the speed limit.  Gigabit stuff.  I did it just to see if I could.  Surprised myself when it worked better than anything I've done with amanda.

Thanks John.  Stay well.
John
