The second error was my fault. I was inadvertently still including in
the link command (via -llibSDL2 -L<path_to_my_libSDL2>) the pre-ports
version of libSDL2 that I had been using.

I changed to setting -s USE_SDL=2 only in the link command to shut off
most of these warnings.
For reasons I can't fathom, after these 2 changes the first error does
not appear any more.

emsdk does not yet show 1.29. Both version.txt and VERSION in
tools/ports/sdl.py are 2.
The assert appears to have been a transient problem. If it happens again
I will do some more investigation.
