[Meant to reply-all, do replying again] Some systems seem to automatically scan all mounted paths periodically, which could look to encfs like periodic access.. You can try running encfs in debug mode, which will dump out any operations it is applying. If the only accesses are things like 'stat' calls on the root node, then it may be that encfs should ignore those for the purposes of considering a path idle..
