Dear List, I am sorry in case this question has been asked before ( how can I search SF archives??? ).
As I have only basic knowledge about security and ciphers, I would like to ask how secure BoxCryptor is, because it only supports a smaller subset of the encfs features. Their website states, that the following settings are used: EncFS version >= 1.7 - should be fine Cipher algorithm: AES - should be fine too Plaintext or Stream encrypted filenames - default setting? No filename initialization vector chaining - ??? No per-file initialization vectors - ??? No external IV chaining - ??? No block MAC headers - I guess it takes too much CPU on embedded devices running Android No per-block random bytes - same as above By security I do not mean government-grade security, but general problems comparable to the usage of AES ECB. On my Linux box I use the "real" encfs :) Thanks for reply, robert ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Live Security Virtual Conference Exclusive live event will cover all the ways today's security and threat landscape has changed and how IT managers can respond.
