Hello Colleagues,

I am working as consultant in Namibia. We are addressing the issue of
domestic violence by developing a new law to protect victims. This law is
in Bill form and has already gone through the entire process to have it
accepted. It's presently being presented to parliament. We hope that this
Bill will be passed within the next few months.

At the same time we're looking at developing protocols for all the staff
that could possibly be required to assist victims of violence, such as the
police, state prosecutors, medical staff etc. We have just developed the
rape protocols and are busy initiating the necessary training. It seems as
if all groups are really excited about these new protocols. We hope the
same happens with the domestic violence protocols.

We are therefore specifically interested in various programs and guidelines
that may be available to assist victims and families of domestic violence.
any input on aspects relevant to all role-players involved in the multi
-professional team, such as the police, medical staff, court personnel and
counsellors will be very valuable. We believe that the victim and his / her
family are best assisted if everyone involved takes hands in a combined
effort to really address the problem. All persons must be focussing on
attaining the same long term result.

Kind regards,

Wendy Rossouw
