Because date rape and dating violence is such a problem in this country a lot
of the shelter advocates were able to go into the high schools and talk
about battering. I have done it in the past on several occasions. I have
also used it when I had the opportunity to speak with young people.

I used to use a values clarification exercise that was a great success in
getting conversations started and was fairly non threatening. We would have
statements like, "guys hit their girl friends because they are jealous and
love them" or "the first time my boyfriend/girlfriend hit me I would be out
the door." I would post signs around the room that read -  agree, disagree,
neutral, strong agree and strong disagree and ask them to take a position
near the sign that reflected their opinions. Man would we have fun. I used
these same exercises with adults.

That was a long time ago! What is being used now?
