Elementary schools boost children knowledge greatly. It is the stage where they are exposed to different materials which founds their future interests. During the years, many topics have been taught to them such as history, geography and recently science and technology. In spite of the fact that all these subjects are interesting and useful, there has not been a consensus on categorizing them into compulsory and optional courses. Some people argue that subjects like history and geography are a waste of time whilst other modern subjects like science and technology are mandatory issues for them. In my opinion, none of them is a waste of time and students must learn a mixture of those subjects.
By studying history, primary school students get familiar with the past and learn from their ancestors. They also increase their knowledge about other ancient nations as well as their attitudes towards each other. As a result, They learn by stories and evidence about their predecessors' fate on account of their way of life. So I believe students can learn the way of good living by listening to the stories that history tells them. On the other hand, their knowledge about countries, different climates in the world and also how different people make their living in various regions of the world will be increased if they study geography. Due to the fact that nowadays all children have access to various high-tech equipment at home from the very beginning of their lives, they should be taught about how this equipment was invented and what changes they caused in human lives. It is also necessary to expose them to some scientific experiences and provide them with simple laboratories to experience some facts of nature by themselves. Because of all these mentioned reasons, personally, I believe that neither history and geography nor science and technology are waste of time to be taught in primary schools. Instead, each one contributes to development of one aspect of their minds and children in primary schools had better to be offered at least one unit of them compulsorily.
