Did you recently upgrade to GnuPG 2? The most common problem on Linux
is that gpg-agent can't launch pinentry, because the used pinentry is
console-based.

You might want to check if in ~/.gnupg/gpg-agent.conf points to a
graphical pinentry tool, such as pinentry-qt or pinentry-gtk
(parameter "pinentry-program".
