Alex,

since I encountered the same issue on two Mint machines, please try:

 1. Check if "use-agent" is in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf - if not, add it as
    sigle line.
 2. If there's not gpg.conf at all, issue

    use-agent" >> ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf

 3. After that, log out and back in.

That alone solved my issue.

I solved these in Mint 17.2 Cinnamon usint these commands:

apt-get -qy install gpgsm gnupg2 gnupg-doc xloadimage pinentry-doc
mv /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-gpg.desktop \
   /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-gpg.desktop.disabled

And instead of killing gnome-keyring-daemon and logging out and in, I
rather rebooted.
