Version 1.9 requires a newer Thunderbird than I have. One the other
hand, the same thing happened with v1.6 to which I have reverted to for
now (i.e. TB insisted on decoding an email as soon as it came in
regardless of whether I was reading it or not at the time). IMHO the new
menus in v1.7+ are confusing - instead of putting a checkmark next to
"Sign Message" we now have a strange "I will not sign this message" menu
with a submenu; I have yet to see another program that does this and I
wonder who could've been confused by the way things were in v1.6...
I was reading a newsfeed, and Ian sent me an encrypted email. The email
came in and out popped the PGP password requester.
This is unfortunately beyond our control.
When Thunderbird receives an email, it puts it into the email processing
pipeline. Once all plugins are finished with the email the message gets
dropped in your inbox. Thunderbird calls Enigmail and says, "here's a
new message, do your magic," and Enigmail does -- but Enigmail doesn't
get told if you currently have the email window open, if you're reading
news, whether you're away from the keyboard, or anything else. We get
no context for how you're currently using Thunderbird, and for that
reason we can't make context-sensitive decisions like "should we try to
process this right now, or wait for later?"
I see, I'd never noticed that before, I'd assumed v1.7 was broken, lol,

emails, I was reading news. I entered my passphrase and the newsfeed
article I was reading gained the cyan banner of Enigmail: Enigmail was
saying it had successfully decrypted the article - but I was reading a
news article, NOT my emails.
This is a bug in 1.7.2. I believe it was fixed some time ago. I don't
have the problem in 1.9.1.
k, I'll upgrade to v1.9+ one day when I upgrade TB itself...
