It depends on the Thunderbird version. If you are using Thunderbird 38,
then you better stick with Enigmail 1.8.2. If you are using Thunderbird
45 or newer, you can upgrade to Enigmail 1.9.5.

If you want to use the version from AMO, you first have to uninstall the
Debian version, otherwise you'll have two versions of Enigmail
installed, and none will work properly.
