There is a but in Enigmail 1.9.5 that makes it break on Thunderbird 38. I'd recommend you either downgrade to Enigmail 1.8.2 [1], or to upgrade to Thunderbird 45. -Patrick [1] <https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/enigmail/versions/>
