Enigmail targets the 95% use case.  We'd like to target the 99.9%, but
frankly, we have neither the developers nor the budget for it.

If you want to do something non-standard with a user ID (and yes, an
email address is standard), we suggest creating your certificate at the
command line with "gpg --expert --full-generate-key" (using GnuPG 2.2).
