In fact, you're almost all wrong... Get everything from HEAD... and if
something fails try SPLIT
To get more helps on what to get where look at the enlightenement website or
more precisely there http://www.enlightenment.org/pages/cvsnotes.html

Give it a new try... Everything should build... without too much troubles.
